| Tucked away in the mountains north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the site where we helped raise a full frame and exterior porches that we built for a family. Like most of our frames, this frame was erected by the owner, a few local skilled laborers, family, friends, and Ritch and me acting as the working advisors from our company. I still enjoy getting out on the road and working with new people to assemble their frames. During the raising, the weather cooperated except for one brief shower. We managed to have the frame standing with the porches on in 3 days. I was also lucky enough to be accompanied by my son on this project. Even though he was getting over a pair of broken wrists, we did manage to get him to drive a few pins. We're looking forward to having him back in the shop this summer.
The footprint of this home measures 30' x 42' with the front 18' section extending another 6' from the great room. There is a bedroom downstairs, 2 bedrooms upstairs, and the center section open to the great room. We stood 4 main bents to span the 42' and stood a hammer truss in the front of the great room. This frame is pictured with a full wrap timber frame porch. "It's beautiful!" was the phrase we kept hearing again and again.
I want to say thanks to Mark for breaking out his old banjo and picking a tune for us, little did I know there was to be another banjo picker at our next project. It started out to be a pretty good summer.
